"hold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours"
i am very bad at “off the top of my head” lists. this is something that, i think, the gf has learned to accept about me. for every list, there is an order, a context, a contingency. list-making off the top of my head is not something i do.
that said, i am going to give it a try.
totally and completely off the top of my head, what i think are my top ten albums of the last ten years. these are, by no means, the best, or the most influential, or the most representative albums. they are my top albums. they might not be the albums that i listened to the most, or the ones i raved about the most, but they’re the ones i keep coming back to. they’re the albums that scored that weird decade of my life where i threw off (most of) my adolescent sneer, got punched in the gut by Real Life, picked myself up, and settled into the comfortable skin of being an adult. these are the albums that will not get purged from the collection.
1) The Arcade Fire, Funeral (2004)
2) Broken Social Scene, You Forgot It In People (2002)
3) The National, Boxer (2007)
4) The Organ, Grab That Gun (2004)
5) The Postal Service, Give Up (2003)
6) The Shins, Chutes Too Narrow (2003)
7) Spoon, Kill the Moonlight (2002)
8) The Strokes, Is This It? (2001)
9) Wilco, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002)
10) Wolf Parade, Apologies to the Queen Mary (2005)
it pains me not to list the ones that barely missed making it. but i’ll be good. needless to say they won’t be getting purged anytime soon either.
